Step By Step: How To Apply And Blend Face Makeup + My Face Favorites!

This video was published on my YouTube Channel on August 7, 2015.

HI EVERYONE!!

I worked sooo hard on this video for you guys!! I really hope that you enjoy it and even learn something new!

The technique that I used in this video was not taught to me!

I use both hands to do makeup (and everything else for that matter) so I would switch hands while blending eye as well as face makeup... To speed up my makeup applications I started holding a brush in each hand- Then I started noticing the difference it made using two separate brushes to blend out my face makeup and the difference it made with each product vs the brush being used. That's when I came up with this technique!

This is not the only way (technique) that I use to apply and blend face makeup, because of all the nice comments that I received on my last video about my blending technique it inspired me to talk you guys through step by step on what I did!
I'd love to see you guys try this out! If you do not own the same exact brushes you can try to dupe them for similar ones that you already have!

So Much Going On: Updates!

First FAST UPDATE:
Okay, So I completed 6 days of my water fast. On the 6th day I went to work for CHANEL as a freelance artist for one of their counters. It was the launch of the fall collection & if you know me, you know that fall makeup is my all time FAVORITE! I was super excited to be called in for the job, and I already had in the back of my mind.... "you better eat something!" but I didn't want to stop fasting and I wasn't hungry AT ALL!

Here's a snapshot of my Instagram Post- Isn't this collection
 beautiful!!!!????!
Long story short around 3 o'clock I started feeling extremely dizzy and my vision began getting blurry so I took a break and drank some soup to break my fast. I know that the only reason why I started feeling like that is simply because I wasn't drinking enough water! When I keep drinking it keeps me hydrated and I don't feel weak, but downside is I have to use the bathroom like every 20-25 minutes! I can't keep leaving while I'm working so I just drank about 8 ounces of water before I left home and took a couple of sips of my water at work and totally forgot about it! Another thing- I can't drink warm water... I just don't like the taste, my water has to be cold so once my water bottle got warm I thought I would be fine by lunch time to buy a new bottle but uhhh yea, didn't turn out so. I did gain a lot of spiritual clarity while fasting & learned the difference between when I'm hungry or when I'm just thirsty!

Pic that I snapped of the counter with my iPhone 6 - I used VSCOcam to edit.

YOUTUBE UPDATE!!!!
I now have a YouTube Channel guys!!!!!!! I'm sooo sooo excited about that! I feel like this update deserves its own post- that's how important this step was for me! Check out my very first video by clicking here PLEASE PLEASE give it a thumbs up, comment & let me know that you stopped by from my blog & don't forget to subscribe ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

FACEBOOK UPDATE!!!!!

LIFE UPDATE!
I'm keeping busy by teaching myself how to edit & learn more about that kind of stuff. If I had to name 2 things that I've always been into since a child it's film making and teaching. Growing up as a little girl I always told my mom that I wanted to be a teacher.... I would write on her walls with chalk and pretend to be teaching a class! Whenever we'd go anywhere since about 8 years old I've always been the photographer/videographer! I was always the person recording everything! They used to call me the camera lady! hahaha! Until this day; when we go out my mom, my aunt, - everyone close to me always wants ME to take their picture! I've never realized what a connection I had with photography and editing until recently when I started to make my makeup videos. I've been taking personal videos of vacations, bdays, (personal stuff) & I'd edit and send to all of my friends and family! They would always tell me what a great job I've done & I would never look at it as "work" just a hobby. Fasting helped me put a lot of things into perspective! (in a nutshell) What else.... I haven't been including post about parenting/lifestyle & that's what I started this blog about so I'll be incorporating more lifestyle posts; strictly just for my blog!
Here are a few pics of my baby girl & I this past week at the park! I can't believe when I started this blog she was about a year old and I was giving out pregnancy survival tips! Now she's  going on 6 years old and about to be in the 1st grade!!!!!!

Kissy Face!

She loves to watch the ducks!
We have been going to the park to feed them all summer!

I was trying to smile with my eyes; she was trying to finish her slushy!

Love you guys & thanks so much for taking the time out to read ☕.

"No matter how careful I am, there's going to be the sense that I missed something, the collapsed feeling under my skin that I didn't experience it all. There's that fallen heart feeling that I rushed right through the moments where I should've been paying attention. Well, I'm getting used to that feeling. This is all practice. None of this matters. I'm just warming up."

Water Fast : Days 3 & 4

Day 3 was extemely rough. I started to pray and listen to gospel music around mid day and that lasted for about 3 hours. I was very hungry and I know it has a lot to do with me not drinking enough water. (But having to urinate every 20 minutes is not fun)

In leu of the band launches in Trinidad for Carnival 2016 I decided to do a look inspired by one of Tribe's costumes. Figured it would take my mind off food.
Sure enough, it worked. I posted this look up on my personal Facebook page to get the opinions of my friends and family- hands down everyone liked my ombré lip better than my "simple" lip.

This look definitely challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and I'm really proud of myself! I will keep practicing and I will get better.

Doing makeup on myself or a client- it's just so relaxing to me and I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love for a living!

Day 4 my hunger was completely gone; but my cravings were at an all time high. I have been craving a juicy burger fresh off a blazing charcoal grill... mmmmm!! I started to feel really dizzy so I drank some coconut water. That was the most refreshing & invigorating thing my taste buds has ever been through! I felt replenished and ready to go for another 10 days. I really do feel like going a full two weeks would be great for me. I am learning how to listen to my body again, and it feels great.

Morning of day 5 - I sooooo wanted to publish this post last night to update you guys on days 3 and 4 but I was up all night chatting with my friend Mercedes! (She's been with me 5 years strong!  Her and her mom are my #1 clients; they became more than that over the years, we're practically family!) I woke up feeling full of energy, I made 20 ounces of water mixed with lemon, lime and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Which is basically the master cleanse minus the maple syrup.

Tomorrow I am working for at a beauty counter for a special event and I'm so nervous that I'm going to have to use the bathroom every 20 minutes if I drink too much, but if I don't drink enough I will get really hungry! I'm really nervous about tomorrow. The only time I could remember fasting and feeling perfectly fine was when I did my 3 day water fast with my friend Tasia. It was just so easy... then I think back and put myself back in that place. What made that fast different? I wasn't doing it for weight loss. My mindset and reasoning was totally different. I was doing it with Tasia and her church. Her church was open for 24 hours for 3 days and members were fasting. She told me about it and asked if I'd like to join. At that point I had already done one master cleanse and I felt like 3 days would be fine especially for an opportunity to be apart of such a spiritual experience. Point is, my reasoning was much bigger than weight loss, and that is where I realize my mind needs to stay- on the bigger picture.

Water Fast : Day 2

Day 2 - I woke up this morning with little to no hunger. I did not add any lemons or limes to my water today; just plain ole water. Today was not as easy as yesterday, I need to speed up the process and get my body into ketosis quickly so I will be drinking a laxative tea before bed tonight.

While on the Master Cleanse it requires a laxative tea at night and a salt water flush every morning- I will incorporate the laxative tea to my water fast because I want my cravings and hunger to subside. I really feel like when I drink tea it helps with my hunger.

I was really cranky today and didn't want to be bothered. This is one of those times that I wish I could be totally alone- Just me & the Lord. I prayed more yesterday than I did today, which is another reason why I think I've been feeling really cranky.

My bladder is mimicking the time I was in my third trimester of pregnancy. When I need to use the bathroom I need to use the bathroom; there is no holding it. It's after 10pm so 2 more hours until day 3!! My scale stopped working on Sunday (the day before I started my fast) which is probably a good thing because when I fast I tend to weigh myself every time I use the bathroom or every time I look at the scale for that matter. It truly amazes me how it goes down at least 2lbs everyday! I'm not looking for a number on the scale anymore thought; once I am proud of what I see in the mirror and my clothing starts to fit the way I want it to I'm happy.

I'm looking forward to day 3- After day 3 is when the real weight loss starts to kick in. My body will start to survive off of stored fat... isn't that lovely? :)

I'm calling it a night, going to "enjoy" this cup of tea and pretend that it's a real drink. (like with alcohol) -_-

Started Out As A Master Cleanse....

My friend over at Mad Melly got me this mason jar!
I'm obsessed with cups and jars for some reason. This jar holds 24oz
I love that I can measure exactly how many ounces I'm
consuming. This was such a thoughtful gift as she knew that
I was starting on this journey ♥ If ya looking for a
cool fashion blog to follow- go follow her!

Whenever I start to yearn for a change in my life- the best thing I know how to do is fast and pray. I feel like any kind of cleanse, detox, or fast requires a lot of mental strength. I have done the Master Cleanse twice (and I've also completed a three day water fast.) Each time I utilized the cleanse as a tool to get in touch with my spiritual side. I am 100% more in tune with my body and I can understand and control my hunger. I am not only doing this fast for spiritual reasons, otherwise I wouldn't be sharing it with the public- I'm also doing it to lose weight and have a complete fresh start. I am documenting my journey and sharing it to hopefully help and inspire others.

Vote On My Summer 2015 Hair Style!

My kinky curly hair

So I'm getting my hair done this week and I'm looking for a change! I cannot make up my mind on a hairstyle/color that I want BUT what I do know is - I want my hair to be shoulder length!

Here are a few options.... I want you guys to comment and let me know which style I should rock this summer!

I haven't rocked a center part in a while and I love the blonde ombré that she has going on!

This side part is so sexy & the blonde bombshell look never goes out of style! I think this cut is exactly what I'm looking for in terms of shape and length....

Her hair is kinda white with black roots- looks like a wig to me... I really admire how this looks but it would be a huge change for me! In terms of color I would try this out but I would need it to be shoulder length :)

Grey hair!! Love this trend.... Is it for me? Idk "/ what do you guys think?????

I absolutely love Eva Marie & her flaming red locks! I would 100% love to try this out one day!

I'm really leaning towards the blonde Kim K. look but maybe with a middle part? Then again... Blonde again? I've never been platinum blonde so it is different... Ugh! Help!! Please vote & help me decide my summer hair!

Eye Of The Day: Cut Crease Using Tarte True Blood Palette!

I used my Tarte true blood palette to create this look. I actually won this palette a few years back when I used to work at Sephora and this is the FIRST time that I've ever used it! The pigment is beautiful and I can't wait to create a lot more fun looks with this palette!
It came with an eyeshadow primer, a mascara, and a black eyeliner. Everything was in great condition... (except the mascara which was dry) but who cares! Everything else was like brand new!
I'll post a full review on this palette soon.

Lashes are Kiss Juicy Volume
Eyeliner MAC Black Track
Brows Bobbi Brown Saddle & Mahogany E/S

To build the color in my crease I used this Rimmel London eyeliner then applied the green e/s from my Tarte palette. Using the pencil to outline my crease helped make this look a lot more crisp.

This pencil also has a smudger on the other end which I absolutely love! I can do a simple wing liner and add this to my bottom lash line and smudge it out... perfect for summer because this is a waterproof pencil & it seriously does not smudge! When working with it on your eyes it's great for eyeliner but if you are going to use it the way I did in order to smudge you have to work quickly; that's why I do one eye at a time because it sets really quickly and won't budge!

Quote Of The Day!

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. Review: Stellar LED Vari-Zoom On Camera LED Light STL-AF5W + Smart Phone Bracket

*****UPDATE*****

I just went on stellar lightings website to write a review on my purchase, and the light is gone!! I did find another website that is selling the light - click here for the direct link! That site has it for $49.00 which is a few dollars less. Doesn't look like it comes with the phone bracket though.

Hello Beauties!

As promised here is my review on the LED Vari-Zoom On Camera LED Light + Smart Phone Bracket from Stellar Lighting! I've been using the light and phone bracket for almost two weeks now and feel comfortable enough to give a full review on it!

$59 + shipping & handling

Hope you enjoy and hope this helps you out if you are thinking about purchasing lighting for your photos... grab a snack because I feel a long (enjoyable & informative) post coming on!

Lets get right into it & start off with my list of Pros & Cons.... Well I want to start off with the bad news first so.... My list of Cons & Pros.

Cons:

Instructions:
The light came with no instructions- this was the biggest turn off to me, because there were also no instructions on the website. I know that I can play around with it and figure it out for myself, but I just feel better knowing that I read the instructions. I actually kinda broke it a little because there were no directions "/ I was shoving my phone in the bracket not knowing it has a button on the side to press to adjust the size! So my bumpers are dented on the top and bottom!! (you can see it if you look closely at the bumper of the phone bracket in the above photo) If I could just buy the phone bracket I would... It still works but it looks really ugly now and at that point I only had it for 5 minutes! I was so pissed!! So yeah... no instructions/ picture diagram nothing.... really annoying.

Reviews:
There are no reviews on the website or anywhere online.  (Anywhere that I've checked at least, and I checked the website of itself stellar lighting, instagram, amazon, google) I really had nothing to base this purchase off of without reading reviews of actual users.

False Information:
On the website it says that the light runs off of 3 AA batteries, it really runs off of 4 AA batteries.

Tracking:
No tracking information was given, when it was given it said it would get to me by Thursday... then after signing back in the tracking information was no longer available; I eventually received the light the evening of the next day- Friday.

Communication:
I called both numbers on the website during business hours & I got someone's cellphone generic voicemail.

Pros:

Communication:
Yes, communication is on the pro and con list.... I reached out to the Stellar Lighting Via their Instagram page on Thursday (the day delivery was supposed to be made) and asked for an update because I didn't have the tracking information and I was super excited to start using my light- they wrote back in a timely manner as well as sent me an email assuring that I would receive the next day (which I did)

Uses:
Once I played around with it enough and learned how to make the light and the phone bracket work best for me I love it! I find it handy and conveniently shaped making it easy to travel with.

Temperature:
It doesn't get hot! Big plus for me!! Imagine trying to take 100 selfies with a hot light beaming on your face! Or shining not only a bright but now  a hot light on your client!

Adding Accessories To Your Purchase:

Bluetooth:
I purchased a Bluetooth remote for my phone in order to snap better photos. I find that arms distance is still too close for my liking of the light. I ordered mine off of amazon.com for $5! I was debating between the black & green...

Ended up getting the green just to be different, but I know myself... I would've been happier with the black because it looks more professional and I just really like black. Ugh... gonna order another!

Tripod:
Purchasing a tripod is also a good idea if you are thinking about purchasing this light so you can set it at the distance you'd like and snap away with your Bluetooth remote!

photo from amazon.com

Additional Lighting:
If you want to capture the most "natural looking" lighting it's best to be surrounded with light... just having one light shining on you won't quite do the trick if the rest of lighting around you is off.

You can purchase inexpensive light boxes (2) to place on each side of yourself or your client- OR you can use natural lighting in addition to your LED phone light- that's what I find has been working best for me.

Product Highlights:
  • 300 Lumens Output
  • Flood / Spot Lighting via Fresnel Lens
  • Soft Light / Hard Light
  • Dimmable, Adjustable Focus
  • 5wLED Chip (Cree R2)
  • 5600k Daylight Color Temperature
  • Low Power Consumption
  • Extra Shoe Mounts
  • Made In the USA
Fresnel lens at the front to adjust the light output from flood to spot, hard to soft
Dimming and adjustable focus to suit every lighting condition
5wLED Chip (Cree R2) is made in the USA and uses energy saving green technology
Low power consumption with a maximum output of 300 lumens
5600k daylight color temperature
Extra shoe mounts for adding additional lights and microphones
Powered by 4 AA batteries (not included)  ((description from bhphotovideo.com))

Final Thoughts:
I am happy with my purchase. I enjoy having the option of using it if I want. I brought it to a couple of freelance jobs and my clients love that I have it! It also helped me out when I needed a little extra light at one of my clients homes- I didn't shine it directly on her face but bounced it off the wall.

Example:

Light                            No Light
Both photos were taken with my iPhone 6 at further than "selfie" distance- they are both zoomed in.

Hope you guys enjoyed this review & found it useful- If you are interested in a post on how to use (How I use) and set up my light let me know! What are your thoughts? Would you consider purchasing something like this?

"To be a star, you must shine your own light, follow your own path, and don't worry about the darkness, for that is when the stars shine brightest"

I have no affiliation with stellar lighting- I was not asked or paid to write this review, these are my own personal thoughts and opinions and photos.

Hello Beauties; I'm Back!

{updated my profile pic}

I miss my blog and communicating with you guys so much! I plan on blogging on a more consistent basis from now on! (once again) More personal posts, not the type I've been doing lately. I will be blogging about the same topics - Beauty/Makeup, Lifestyle, & Fashion.

My goal is to have at least 2 posts up a week.

If you have Instagram please follow my new beauty page ♥♥♥ @beautybyrhenicia ♥♥♥
I'm on there everyday❣

So, the first post that I am working on for you guys is a review! I'm really excited to review this product because I swear I couldn't find one review on it AT ALL anywhere online!!!!!

It's the Stellar LED Vari-Zoom Light + Phone Bracket.

Why did I purchase this light?
To be able to take better quality makeup photos of myself as well as my clients.

After reading the description off of the website (which was all I really had to go off of) I decided for about $60 I'll take my chances and purchase. I really hate making online purchases without reading reviews first. I purchased my temptu airbrushing system when there were little reviews on it online from real people using it as well- but I was really happy that I did! I posted a review on it couple years back- (if you want to read that click here)

Here is the description straight from the website that I ordered it from; Stellar Lighting.

"An optimist is a person who sees only the lights in the picture, whereas a pessimist sees only the shadows. An idealist, however, is one who sees the lights and the shadows, but in addition sees something else; the possibility of changing the picture, of making lights prevails over the shadows."

Henna Design

Henna tattooing is a cultural practice that dates back over 5,000 years. Henna today is used as a popular form of expression for luck and happiness.

I decided to get a henna designed temporary tattoo for my trip to Trinidad this year. I knew for sure that I did not want the red henna- I wanted black. After doing a little research on black henna I found a lot of information leading me to believe that black henna is unsafe. I heard about a temporary gel that can be used to achieve the same look of black henna but instead a safe all natural gel is applied and it is 100% painless!  (I got tons of info on this from a video one of my favorite beauty gurus @chrisspy or chrisspy makeup on YouTube posted!) I love loooved her henna design! I love looove everything about her actually lol!

They say to refrigerate the gel to store (I did not) so can't give a proper review on this product - I'd love to know if the consistency really stays the same and can be reused. I didn't put my gel in the fridge until the next day, when I tried to use it again it was an epic fail ; but I only have myself to blame because I did not follow the proper care instructions.

Even though I did not use the traditional henna for my tattoo (and this kit is easy enough for you to do for yourself or one of your friends can do it for you) I decided to go to an official henna artist- it is said that applying henna can be a deeply moving and communicative experience for both the bearer and the artist and opens a spiritual connection where a gifted blessing can be received.

My tat lasted about 9 days, the cool thing about having this kit is you can retouch your design when it begins to fade by just tracing over it!

Would you ever try henna? What are your thoughts?
